What is Ayatul Kursi?

{ ٱللَّهُ لاَ إِلَـٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ٱلْحَيُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ }
› Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal.
{ لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ }
› No slumber can seize Him nor sleep.
{ لَّهُ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَـٰوَاتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلأَرْضِ }
› His are all things in the heavens and on earth.
{ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ }
› Who is there can intercede in His presence
except as He permitteth?
{ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْۖ }
› He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them.
{ وَلاَ يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلاَّ بِمَا شَآءَ }
› Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth.
{وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَاتِ وَٱلأَرْضَ }
› His “Kursi” extends over the heavens and the earth.
The meaning of Ayatul Kursi
The Ayah has a deep, yet direct meaning. The most central meaning of the Ayah is the throne, al-Kursi. This term significates the power and the greatness of God. In fact, Allah extends his existence over the heavens and the earth. Therefore, he is the only one whose orders are executed, and the only one who can make decisions about his creations, and the ruling of them. In other words. Allah has the knowledge and the power over all existing, and yet to exist things. The passage talks about the uniqueness and the unity of Allah. We learn, that god, is different from all humans and creation, as he is self-subsisting eternal. Moreover, he knows everything, unlike our limited knowledge.
