Making an essential oil means steam distilling. In other words, to make lavender essential oil, you’re going to have to distill the lavender buds, get the steam, and condense it into essential oil. And in this sense, you will need heat, a few items, pressure, and of course some patience. First off, you will need:

  • Dried lavender buds.
  • Grain alcohol
  • Mortar and Pestle
  • Coffee filter
  • Two glass jars (never plastic)

And these are the steps:

  1. Pour the dried lavender buds into a bowl and use a pestle to crush them so they release the oil.
  2. Add the crushed lavender to one of the jars with a tight lid and cover the peels in grain alcohol.
  3. Shake the jar well several times a day for many days, so you release the oil.
  4. Get the coffee filter to strain the extract from the lavender buds into the other jar.
  5. Place a clean coffee filter on top of the jar. Let sit to allow alcohol to evaporate from the jar, you can let it sit for one week. So the extract is pure and successful.
