Introduction to Surah Sajdah
The main theme of Surah Sajdah is to dispel doubts in people’s minds about Tawhîd (Monotheism), Beyond, and Prophecy. It invites them to adhere to these three truths. When the Meccan infidels talked to each other about the prophet, they said to themselves: “This man invents very curious things. He sometimes speaks of what will happen after death …
He says: when you are only dust, you will be called to account and there will be Hell and Heaven. these gods, goddesses, and other saints that you worship are nothing: There is only One God worthy of “to be adored, the words I recite are hardly mine; it is the Word of Allah. As many strange things as he supports”.
Allah’s message in Surah Sajdah to those who doubted the Prophecy
The answers to this situation are the central theme of this Surah. The Prophet intrigued a lot of doubt in Meccah, after Revelation. He met skepticism, sometimes with fury and anger. It almost seems as he was speaking a foreign language. As Surah Sajdah says, Mekkah people already had their belief system, going from paganism to Christianism to Judaism. Quraysh, at the time, considered Muhammad, prayer, and peace upon him, as a heretic, a crazy man, not to take seriously. Nonetheless, he had Allah by his side and never doubted.
In this regard, Surah Sajdah says that the infidels are informed: “Most certainly, this is the Word of Allah, revealed to awaken people sinking into recklessness, and deprived of the benefits and blessings of the Prophetic mission. How would you call it” invention “while it is manifest and obvious that it is revealed by Allah?”
Here, the Surah says the most radicals of the Prophet’s critics called him “fake news”. Allah, via the Qur’an, gratifies this, by putting the light on Him and His Message, instead of the Prophet.
Surah Sajdah’s benefits: questioning oneself
Then they are asked: “Use your common sense and judge for yourself: among the things presented in the Qur’an, what is strange and comes from fabricated histories? Observe the management of the earth and the heavens. Meditate on your creation itself. Do these elements not testify in favor of the teachings which this Prophet transmits to you by the Koran? Does the universe reflect Monotheism (Tawhîd) or polytheism (shirk)? When you consider everything this universe and your creation itself, does your intellect tell you that the One who gave you your present existence will not be able to create you again?”
Then, the Surah depicts a scene from Beyond. It discussed the tasty fruits of faith and the bitter consequences of disbelief and He urges people to give up disbelief before entering their graves. It calls them to accept the teachings of the Noble Qur’an which will then testify in their favor in the Hereafter. Then, still in Surah Sajdah, He informs them. “It is by Allah’s Supreme Mercy that He doesn’t grab the man immediately because of his mistakes to chastise him forever.” On the contrary, He experiences it through small troubles, difficulties, losses, calamities so that he wakes up and grasps the warning.
The Miracle of the Last Book
“This is not the first time that Allah has revealed a Book to a man. In the past, as you well know, a Book was revealed to Moses. There is therefore nothing worthy of your amazement. Be it some, this Book is revealed by Allah and knows that what happened in the time of Moses will happen again. Leadership will be given only to those who accept the Divine Book. Those who reject it run to their inevitable loss “Surah Sajdah says.
It gives the message to the Meccah people that they would better accept the Prophecy and the Divine Book, as they have nothing to win if they do not. “They run to their inevitable loss”. Allah will not forget who accepted the Prophet and who did not. Surah Sajdah’s benefits reside in this fact: let them know what awaits for them.
Then, Allah warns the Meccan infidels: “Look at the disastrous fate of bygone communities. During your travels for trade, you pass very close to the ruins that they left after them. Do you hope to have the same fate? “The superficial aspect of things does not deceive you! Today, it is clear to you that no one listens to what Muhammad – peace, and blessings be upon him – says, except for a few young people, some slaves, and some poor.
Supporting and reinsuring the Prophet (SWS) in Surah Sajdah
He is the object of your curses and obnoxious remarks, bursting out from all sides. You then have the impression, wrongly, that its mission will fail. It is the wrong conclusion that your observations inspire you. Do not you see in life every day, a land, which was however dry and deserted, cover itself with flourishing vegetation after the rain? Who could have imagined, that under these layers of earth are such treasures that can grow and flower? ”
The Message from Allah calls out the skeptical for their hypocrisy. They tend to ignore what is happening around them, from nature to nurture, without thinking of Allah.
In conclusion, in the Surah, Allah informs and comforts his Prophet. “These people laugh at what you tell them and they ask you when the hour of your decisive victory will come. Tell them: when the Hour of Final Judgment comes, it will be too late for you to adhere to the faith. If it is to embrace the faith, now is the time to do it. But if you prefer to wait for the Final Judgment, wait as you wish. ”
In the final part of Surah Sajdah, as we can see, Allah reinsures his Prophet, prayer, and peace upon him, that he is doing the right thing, and that, in the Judgement Day, when Allah will judge every soul. He will not forget those who mocked and insulted his prophet, those who allowed this to happen, those who simply ignored the message, or those who stayed skeptical and returned to their previous beliefs. Surah Sajdah’s benefits reside in one sentence. “Better accept Allah as the one and only God, and Muhammad (SWS) as his prophet, and embrace the faith, than wait for Allah’s punishment.”
