Many articles provide the benefits of waking up for Fajr but in this article, I will give you different tips about how to wake up for Fajr. Salah is the second pillar of Islam. In Islam, praying five times a day is a duty on every Muslim. When it comes to doing worship, this prayer helps a Muslim separate him or herself from people of other faiths. Most importantly it is a way of calling upon Allah (SWT) and seeking His pleasure. Allah the Almighty declared, “To establish the prayer, after the descending of the sun to the dusk of night and the recitation of Fajr. Indeed, the recitation of Fajr is observed.” [Al-Quran 17:78]
Tips on How to Wake Up for Fajr
Go to sleep early.
This is the easiest thing to accomplish. Staying up all night and going to sleep late will only make it hard for you to wake up when it is time to pray Fajr.
- You can make dua for waking up.
This can be your ultimate weapon against skipping Fajr, or against Shaytaan.
When the Prophet (SWT) used to lay down to get sleep at night, he would place his right hand under his right cheek and pray: “Allahumma Bismika Amutu Aa Ahya”. Means – ‘O Allah, with your name I will die and live (wake up).’
And after waking up, he would say, “Al-Hamdu Lillahil-Ladhi Ahyana ba’ da ma Amatana, Wa Ilayhi-Nushur”. Meaning, ‘All praise is Allah’s, we are brought back to life by Him after He has given us death, and to Him, we must return’. [Riyad us-Salihin]
Sleep with an empty stomach.
As, a heavy supper or late-night eating can make you sleepy if the food contains sleeping agents like- dairy products, protein, and cakes. It can cause you to feel lazy, dizzy, and lethargic.
- Stop taking caffeine before you sleep
if waking up early for Fajr is your priority.
Late coffee stimulates your nervous system, and also the caffeine stays in your blood for six to eight hours.
- Refrain from using any electronics after the clock hits 9.
Try to sleep with ablution.
It is advised by the Prophet (SWT). Angels stay with the person who sleeps with ablution and supplicates to Allah, “O Allah, forgive your slave as he has slept with ablution”. [Ibn Hibban]
- Practice sleeping on your right side. Try to lay down on your right side by placing your right hand under your right cheek as told by the Prophet (SWT).
- Take a short nap in the afternoon. This is a Sunnah (Bukhari). You can maintain a daily routine and administrate the time of your sleeping and waking up.
- Try to find someone or a partner who will wake you up for Fajr. By taking turns you two can help each other, and put an alarm clock far from your bed, so when it goes off, you will have to get out of the bed to turn it off.
- Make a habit to pray Tahajjud daily. It offers you spirituality and will shape the stability of your day. If we train ourselves to wake up an hour before Fajr to pray Tahajjud, then it will help us running until Fajr.
