This is not to give you a complicated detailed lesson on how the web and the websites work. The aim of this article is to shed light on the most important things that every web user has to know. Since we use of the web and of the internet unstoppably, Let us have a look at how it becomes possible for humanity to access this amount of information and services every day within a few minutes!

The web or the internet?

To begin with, allow me to underline a very common misunderstanding going on between people.  Many people refer to the Web as the Internet and use these terms interchangeably.  However, the term Internet (inter-network) actually refers to the millions of interconnected networks of servers that render the information sharing that happens over the Web possible. So, although the Web does make up a large portion of the Internet, they are not one and same.

The internet or the network is a group of an interconnected computer system that seeks to communicate and exchange data.  These computer systems like Laptops, desktops, smartphones, TVs and so on are also called Nodes. The nodes establish a connection between them via cable media or wireless media.  In different words, The Internet is simply the way computers connect to each other in order to share information. When the Internet first emerged, computers actually made direct calls to each other. Today, networks are all around us, so computers can communicate seamlessly.

In contrast, the Web is the common name for the World Wide Web. It is a communication model that enables the exchange of information over the internet which can be accessed by a web browser.  Tim Berners-Lee is the inventor of hypertext, the method of the organization of information units into connected associations that a user can choose to make. Hypertext makes the information easy to link, to find, and to locate or relocate elsewhere. The introduction of hypertext revolutionized the way people used the internet.

How does website Work?

Let’s start with the most obvious way of using the internet: You visit a website like www.miskshops.com. The moment you enter this address in your web browser and you hit ENTER, a lot of different things happen:

  • The URL gets resolved
  • It sends a request to the server of the website
  • The response of the server is parsed
  • The page is rendered and displayed

In fact, we can split up and dig deeper into each step, but for a good overview of how it all works, that’s something we can ignore for now. And if you re happen to be a web developer reading this article and wishing for deeper knowledge. Please forgive me for not going into the beautiful madness of languages and styles involved in the process.

As mentioned earlier, we use The Web to share information over the Internet.  And as a web user, you expect to send and receive information and communicate with your fellow web users. A way to do it is using the web-mail that we lay hands on every day.  The Webmail is web-based email accounts that allow the users to access their emails as long as they have access to an Internet connection and a web browser. This also means that the user cannot read an old email or draft a new email offline.

On the entertaining part of it, we tend to use our web applications for Music, online books, shopping carts, word processors, spreadsheets, video and photo editing, file conversion, file scanning, and email programs such as Gmail, Yahoo and AOL.

These online apps such as email clients, word processors, spreadsheets, and other programs provide the same functionality as the desktop versions. However, they have an added advantage of working across multiple platforms, having a broader reach, and being easily accessible from anywhere.

The web and business

It goes without saying that a lot of businesses have become more eager to build their own websites to get new customers, or even just keep the existing ones excited and updated with the latest products and services on their web store, where they publish their apps and services to the customers. In ‘Misk Shop’, we believe having a website shows professionalism; because if our customers are dealing with a product they are looking to purchase from us and we don’t even have a website, they will pretty much write us off as an option and their view of our company is diminished.  That s why we work hard to make sure our website is helpful to our dear customers.

We indeed agree that a website by definition is a collection of documents or files that you can access through the internet. And for a business to succeed in keeping the customers, it has to make the website looks interesting. Hence why we seek help from experts of the web design to focus on aesthetic factors like layout, user interface and other visual imagery in order to make the website more visually appealing and easy to use. Web design makes use of various programs and tools in order to achieve the intended look, such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop and many others.

Conclusion:

There is no dispute we are all looking online for information that will help us make smarter purchasing decisions. In fact, Most customers will research product information before they make a purchase online or in the store. This buying behaviour trend emphasizes the importance of a website for today’s businesses.

In order for a company to be successful in the modern marketplace, it got to have a professional website. Your website is the backbone of your business, supporting all of your digital marketing efforts. Above, we discussed the importance of the web for our daily life, and for any business success.
